In an announcement during its latest Nintendo Direct presentation, the Japanese gaming giant has revealed that its Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will soon be able to enjoy a selection of classic Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles on their Switch consoles. In a move sure to delight retro gaming fans, players will be able to experience the multiplayer games wirelessly, without the need for a Link Cable.
As of February 8th, subscribers will be able to access a range of Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games, with the latter titles being exclusive to those who opt for the more expensive Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier. This tier, which costs $49.99 per year as opposed to the standard $19.99 subscription, will also grant access to previously released N64 and Sega Genesis games.
At launch, subscribers can look forward to a wide range of classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles, including classics like Tetris, Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX, and Wario Land 3. Meanwhile, those who opt for the premium subscription will also be able to enjoy Game Boy Advance titles like Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap.
In a tantalizing teaser, Nintendo has also hinted at the possibility of bringing some of the highest-rated Game Boy Advance titles to the service soon, with games such as Metroid Fusion, Fire Emblem, and Golden Sun among the confirmed upcoming releases. Additionally, the company has confirmed that future Game Boy Color releases will include The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, Kirby Tilt ‘n’ Tumble, and the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
