Apple Announces HomePod 2

Apple has announced a revised version of it’s 2018 HomePod. The HomePod 2 is designed to deliver exceptional audio quality, with rich, deep bass and clear, detailed highs. It features a custom-engineered high-excursion woofer, a powerful motor that drives the diaphragm 20mm, a built-in bass-EQ mic, and a beamforming array of five tweeters around the base, all of which work together to provide an immersive listening experience. The device also utilizes the S7 chip, which is combined with software and system-sensing technology, to offer advanced computational audio that maximizes the full potential of its acoustic system.

The HomePod 2 also includes room-sensing technology, which recognizes sound reflections from nearby surfaces to determine if the speaker is against a wall or freestanding, and then adapts the sound in real-time. This technology also allows the speaker to precisely direct its beamforming array of five tweeters, separating and beaming direct and ambient audio, which immerses the listener in crystal-clear vocals and rich instrumentation.

As with the original, the HomePod 2 can be paired with other HomePod speakers for a multi-room or stereo experience. Using multiroom audio with AirPlay, users can play the same song on multiple HomePod speakers, play different songs on different HomePod speakers, or even use them as an intercom to broadcast messages to other rooms. Users can also create a stereo pair with two HomePod speakers in the same space, which separates the left and right channels and plays each channel in perfect harmony, creating a wider, more immersive soundstage than traditional stereo speakers for a truly standout listening experience.
