Sony: No more PlayStation 5 Shortage

After a 2-year period of difficulty in obtaining a PlayStation 5, Sony has now assured gamers that they will have an easier time securing the highly sought-after console. A blog post by PlayStation executive Isabelle Tomatis expressed gratitude to fans for their patience during the period of “unprecedented demand” and “global challenges” that impacted the availability of the PS5 worldwide.

Tomatis stated that, as per Sony’s announcement at CES earlier this month, the shortage has ended, and fans should have a simpler time finding a PS5 at retail outlets globally. Despite the shortage, Sony has managed to sell over 30 million units. For those looking to purchase the console, options include the official PlayStation Store or visiting a local retailer. However, as with any supply and demand scenario, there are no guarantees. At the time of writing this blog post Amazon UK have PS5s available to order.

Meanwhile, Sony has also released a new advertisement for the PlayStation ecosystem (see embedded video below), which has sparked speculation among fans about the future of the franchise, including hints at a new entry in the Uncharted series.

In related news, the $200 DualSense Edge controller has just been launched, and on February 22 the $550 PlayStation VR 2 will be available for purchase.
